Furniture covers

My furniture has seen better days. However, it's still pretty solid. Mainly, the cushions on the sofa and the arms of the recliner (a monster chair that was in this house when we moved in) are badly worn. My thought is to recover only the cushions of the couch and the arms of the chair.

The chair arms look like extra, padded cushions on top of the actual chair arms. However, they are attached. I think that if I get some nice, heavy fabric in a coordinating color with a pattern to it, I can probably use elastic around the hem to hold the covers on. That way, they can be washed if they get soiled.

The couch cushions are similarly made, looking like a cushion on a cushion, so I can probably use the same treatment on them. Again, they'd be removable and washable.

Here's the thing - I saw some desk chairs in the place where Younger Daughter works that I really liked. They looked like they were covered with spotted cowhide. I'd like to find something that looks similar to that. I'd improve the looks of my couch and chair while adding interest to the whole room. Plus, I'd save the cost of a major reupholstering job or new furniture. I like what I have and find it to be quite comfortable. It's just getting so worn in places that there are some rips. I'm sure it won't look like the Riviera hotel in my house, but it should look a little better if the furniture is recovered.

I don't like the idea of throw covers because they shift too much and would need too much fussing around to get them just right. Also, the rest of the upholstery on both pieces is in good shape. They're both a fudge brown leather and I like the color a lot.
